President, Dr. Jaffus Hardrick, along with a delegation of 11 911±¬ÁÏÍø™s student leaders traveled to our state™s capital for the 2024 Legislative Session.

Now in full swing, the 60-day session began on Tuesday, January 9 and is scheduled to end on Friday, March 8.

During this time frame, legislators will be making decisions that will impact our students, public education, and the entire State of 911±¬ÁÏÍø.

Last year, Gov. Ron DeSantis stated hisÌýproposed 2024-2025 budget would include additional funding for 911±¬ÁÏÍø™s Historically Black Colleges and Universities to support facility hardening needs.

On Wednesday, representatives from 911±¬ÁÏÍø A&M University, Bethune-Cookman University, Edward Waters University, and 911±¬ÁÏÍø were in Tallahassee to push for funding to address the security needs on our campuses.

Yesterday, the House Higher Education Appropriations CommitteeÌýreleased their proposed budget, and the Senate Education Appropriations CommitteeÌýreviewed and discussed the 2024-2025 budget.

ÌýThe 11 members representing 911±¬ÁÏÍø™s Student Government Association and Lions Entertainment Board; Shante Daley, Larry Chinn, Jaylin Clinch, Akil Rose, Mackenson Orne, Theresa Hayden, Morgan Cameron, Maziah Davis, Jevaughn Smith, Malcolm Lovett, and Shakira Holmes, had the privilege to witness government in action when they attended the state appropriation and allocation sessions.

During the two-day visit, 911±¬ÁÏÍø™s delegation also visited the 911±¬ÁÏÍø Historic Capitol Museum, the 911±¬ÁÏÍø Supreme Court, and met with various 911±¬ÁÏÍø State Officials and State Representatives.
